Johnny Garrett at Flagler Beach Bait & Tackle said the bite on the Flagler Pier has been whiting and blues, with a few sheepshead, small drum and flounder caught in rough surf.

"I've seen a couple pompano, but not many. The ones I have seen have been decent size, 3 or 4 pounds," he said.

And Garrett reported that Dennis Francis caught a 36-pound black drum Wednesday night on a piece of dead shrimp.

Garrett also noted he thinks we are due for a run of big bluefish any time now.

Ponce Inlet area

Sue Broman at the Fishin' Shack said the jetty crowd has been pretty quiet since this wind kicked up three or four days ago, but the last reliable word was that there are Spanish macks, blues and some short reds to be caught.

Mosquito Lagoon & Indian River Lagoon

Neil Brookmyer said his son, Ben, was home for Spring Break from Auburn, Ala., and caught a 34-inch red on the lagoon near Haulover Canal.

Capt. Lee Noga said Oak Hill and Edgewater have been producing limits of shrimp "with no signs the season is winding down."

Lately, shrimp sizes are getting smaller in Oak Hill and increasing in Edgewater, she said. Some 8-inch long shrimp were netted in Edgewater, she said.

Offshore

Broman said, "It's been rougher than Hades! We haven't heard any reports."

She said the last time any decent number of boats were able to get out and scout around was the beginning of the week.

Those trips did report some dolphin and wahoo "pulling around" about 50 miles out, she said. And there have been some near-shore trolling opportunities for king mackerel and Spanish mackerel.

Tomoka Basin & Halifax River

Garrett and Jake Jaquish fished behind Tomoka Estates near the River Grille on the Tomoka on U.S. 1 recently.

"We always catch trout and reds there," Garrett said. "Sunday we went back there, and all we caught was little largemouth bass. They were probably 2 or 3 pounds. Then we went up the Tomoka River past S.R. 40 and Walmart and caught a bunch of tarpon around 20 pounds all on fly."

Garrett said they used a baitfish, muddler pattern in a white and beige color

Don Miller said he has been fishing the Halifax River in Ormond Beach from shore at sunset and, since Sunday, has caught 16 snook between 22 and 26 inches, all on lures.

Matanzas Inlet area

Amy Brown at Bing's Bait & Tackle said flounder from 2 to 3 pounds have been common around the inlet, reds have been active in the Palm Coast canals, trout and whiting have been the mainstay under docks in the Intracoastal channel and there are still some schools of reds to be found back in the flats.

St. Johns River

Capt. Bryn Rawlins at Highland Park Fish Camp said, "Bass have really turned on. Capt. Rick (Rawlins) and Harry Wendelstedt had nine bass up to 5 pounds. We're seeing steady catches of bluegill and a few warmouth and we're really starting to come into the panfish season."
