BUNNELL -- Two married Bunnell police officers were arrested today after the State Attorney's Office charged them with official misconduct on accusations they benefitted the towing business of a city commissioner, according to police reports.
Lt. John Murray and Cpl. Lisa Murray surrendered to authorities today. John Murray, 47, also is charged with possession of cocaine, grand theft and tampering with evidence, according to the State Attorney's Office.
The couple were involved in benefitting the towing business of Bunnell City Commissioner James Flynt, according to the report. The commissioner was charged with battery in February after he went to a car sales lot and demanded payment for towing a vehicle.
Flynt manhandled a manager and an employee at the business and Lisa Murray, 41, responded to the scene to demand that Flynt's bill be paid. The corporal threatened to take the employee to jail if he didn't pay, police said.
John Murray, the only lieutenant on the Bunnell force, is also accused of stealing money and seized narcotics that belonged to the Police Department.
The Murrays -- whose relationship and marriage last year caused controversy within the department -- surrendered at the State Attorney's Office this afternoon and will be transferred to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, the State Attorney's Office said.
