As a boy I was promised to inherit a Ky long rifle that had been past down to the first born for several generations . It had the inlay initials of DB, and Dani Boone was My 9th great uncle.
It looked very much like this one http://www.carlsengallery.com/pastauc/3-25-2007/136.htm

well My Grandfather had a stroke and got a little Nutz and in a moment of insanity sold it to a cousin so it was lost to the family.

this summer My Stepfather gave me a new reproduction A traditions 50 cal. Its awesome, but I haven't had a chance to fire it yet, I cant wait to shoot it. But more important I have got to find a piece of tiger stripe maple to make a new stock for it.

anyone else a black powder fan ?

I have a CVA .45 caliber that my dear wife gave me for a gift one year, a long long time ago. It is actually a percussion cap, black powder derringer. (Think Pirate type pistol).

It was a kit that I actually had to assemble the metal parts, polish and Cold Blue them, and then sand, fit and finish the wood. It is a blast to shoot! and very very deadly. That .45 roundball completely penetrated and proceeded to splinter/split a 2' long piece of 4"x4" pressure treated yellow pine I had laying around as scrap. The damage was impressive.

I love the very slight but noticeable delay when the hammer falls and you actually have ignition of the powder. as a side note I have shot both "Black Powder" when you could still buy it and "Pyrodex" which is/was the substitute. The "Pyrodex" is more like modern powder and less smoke also much less corrosive than authentic "Black Powder".

I actually prefer the "Black Powder" a little slower burn but the derringer throws smoke rings behind the bullet as it discharges. If your shooting for fun the entertainment value is great. It is odd they called it a Derringer though since the barrel length is around 7".

I have a hunch that would have a kick somewhere between a regular rifle and a cannon and I'd be on my ass!! I might want to watch you shoot that thing when you get the powder!
