    Default Really Mr. President

GREEN: Obama hits the links rather than honor police

Anneke E. Green Published on May 15, 2011

President Obama left the White House this morning a little after 9:30 am. He wasn’t on his way to the Capitol building, where grieving friends and families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty hold a yearly commemorative service. Though he was invited to recognize the fallen and offer condolences by speaking at the annual Peace Officers’ Memorial Service, he instead spent this fine Sunday playing a round of golf with aide Ben Finkenbinder, White House trip director Marvin Nicholson and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.

Every president deserves down time. But after offending police earlier this week by hosting a rapper at the White House whose corpus includes a song lauding a convicted cop-killer, blowing off their service in order to golf seems tone-deaf, if not outright callous. Badly done, Mr. President.

Yeah why am I not surprised, He sent the Vice President to Arlington on Veterans Day, cause he was BBQ'ing in Chicago.
There is a lot of why i don't like him although I do support the office he currently holds, I just really hope there is a better choice for next year..but Darn if I can see it yet!

He is the one who proclaimed May 15th to be National Peace Officers day and also has a nice tribute to them. http://www.cdapress.com/news/local_n...cc4c002e0.html

But I agree with you. He should have been there, if he could.

I wonder if he actually read his proclamation?

    NOT QUITE.

The VP was in Arlington....Obama was at the Nat'l Cemetery in Chicago. I believe all our dead veterans are equal, don't you?

Sorry, Itchey...but I'm so sick of all the misconstrued comments.

But isn't that Obama's way? He just makes a noble gesture and takes all the credit without actually lifting a finger...........

I hope you aren't referring to Bin Laden, Grits, because he has not taken all the credit for that. And no, it isn't his way...he attended the event last year.

You know that was a long time ago. And Obama apologized to the officer for over reacting. He based his comments on what the "victim" had said without hearing the whole story. (and no one here has done that, right?) He spoke in haste, and stupidly, and apologized for it.

But I agree with you. He should have been there, if he could.

The guy was playing Golf. I have a problem with that since he was invited to speak at the service right there in D.C. yet he shrugged it off. As far as the proclamation, it is prepared by someone else. All he had to do is sign it. If he even did that....could have been a signature stamp.

It's funny,CF. You say....in Yank's post...that you don't know, for sure, both sides of the story. So, you don't know, that this golf outing wasn't a business thing. No other president gave the Peace Officers their own official day...you can thank Obama for that. And for ordering the flag to be flown at half staff.

I think he should have been there. But at least there's a day for it now. High time.

No I can't. Peace Officers Memorial Day has been recognized since 1962. I can say thanks to President Kennedy who issued the first Proclamation designating May 15th Peace officers Memorial Day.

Apparently you did not click on the links...

Sunday, May 15 is the 30th annual Peace Officers Memorial Service.

Actually the above story isn't quite right...

You're right. I read the article wrong. Apparently there is a yearly proclamation made by the President and I read the proclamation as something he was making official. Thanks for pointing that out, Jim!
