Default Utah School Board Says Cougar Mascot Too Offensive To Women

DRAPER, Utah (CBS Las Vegas) – One Utah school district believes a cougar mascot would be insensitive to women.
The Canyons School District overrode the students top choice of a cougar mascot for their high school that is to be completed in 2013.

Would-be Corner Canyon High School students chose the Cougars as their mascot — a name principal Mary Bailey said carries an ugly connotation that is disrespectful to women.

In popular culture, the cougar is a sexually aggressive middle-aged woman who attracts younger men.
The school board, which consists of six men and one woman, thought the charger

would be more appropriate, which was on the ballot but failed to appeal to students as the cougar had.

Cougars — the large mountain cats — are popular in Utah. Brigham Young Universityconsidered conservative, uses the cougar for its mascot.Bailey said Corner Canyon’s close proximity to BYU was another reason to use the Charger. She said the cougar was popular enough, while the charger gave the school an opportunity to have a unique mascot in Utah.

The ad from air New Zealand, to advertise their grabaseat deals, that had to be banned from the air due to people's complaints about the use of the term cougar. Rape Prevention Education director Kim McGregor told the NZ Herald the ad was objectionable on several levels and that some Air New Zealand staff were concerned about the promotion.

"They find it degrading and that it is encouraging potentially harmful behaviour, so my question is why is our national carrier promoting sexually predatory behaviour?"

Bad news for 20-something men seeking an older woman: the "cougar" trend might not really exist. Dr. Michael Dunn, a psychology researcher at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, who just completed a thorough analysis of 22,400 singles ads on popular dating websites in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan told the Australian Associated Press, "Not once across all ages and countries...did females show a preference for males significantly younger than male preferences for females."

Instead, he found a "consistent cross-cultural preference by women for at least same-age or significantly older men." Dunn added, "I do believe the cougar phenomenon is a myth and, yes, a media construct."
Time magazine, however, wasn't quick to buy Dunn's results, citing a 2003 study by AARP, which concluded that 34 percent of 40-and-older women were dating younger men. Women like Valerie Gibson, author of "Cougar: A Guide for Older Women Dating Younger Men" point to that information as proof that the cougar is not extinct. Gibson said, "I get angered by this silliness....Society has always told us that the older woman who is still sexual isn't supposed to exist. We should be wrapped in a shawl baking cookies for our grandchildren and all that crap."
Websites like Cougar Life have been set up to handle the trend. Either "cougars" or "cubs" can register to find dating matches within a selected age range. It seems to be most popular in NYC, L.A. and Miami.

If I was the twenty something male that they were talking about being the supposed target of the cougar I would be rooting for the cougar life, but since I am in my thirties Im just lookin to catch the same age or older woman bending over wrapped in the shawl taking the cookies out of the oven!............she is naked under the shawl right?

I found a preacher who spoke of the light but there was brimstone in his throat
He'd show me the way according to him in return for my personal check
I flipped my channel back to CNN and I lit another cigarette
