Sorry, been pretty busy but will try and put some taken soon. I still have to get the camera and I don't have a camera phone. I'm pretty old fashioned and hate new gadgets and I am still figuring out how to navigate this social site but I am learning one day at a time! Oh, Winchester says Hi to your fur baby!!

This is a video and picture of a Redtail Hawk that somehow ended up in a Bald Eagle's nest along with three eaglets. No one know exactly how it got there, there is a picture "out there in cyber world" that shows two baby hawks on the 29th of May, but only one hawk was seen after May 31st. Speculation is that the two were brought to the nest as prey and one survived and the eagle parents began feeding it along with the eaglets. Redtail Hawks mature and fledge at a younger age than eaglets. The eaglets appear to be about 6-7 weeks of age in the picture and experts estimated the hawk to be about 2-3 weeks old in this picture. Redtail hawks fledge at between 6-7 weeks of age, eaglets don't fledge until 10-13 weeks of age. The diet of hawks is mice, voles (I'm not sure what that is, I have to look it up), small rabbits, squirrels and such. However, this nest in Sidney, BC (Canada) is located at Robert's Bay and the eagles feed almost exclusively on fish so of course that is what this baby hawk was fed as well.

This is a picture that was taken on May 31, 2017 (Note the different in the size of the little white hawk and the dark brown eaglets.) :



This nest is in a residential neighborhood and this eagle couple have had this nest for many years and the people in the cul de sac have an excellent "relationship" with the nest and eagle couple as well as a great view of their lives while raising their young. There were a lot of held breaths wondering if the little hawk would survive or turn into dinner at some point. The hawk seem to rule the nest and was very aggressive about demanding food and was often feed before the eaglets. The little hawk's demeanor and actions earned him/her the name of "Spunky." There was concern among "raptor experts" if the hawk would know how to hunt and find food as they are not equipped to fish as are eagles. Would it be in danger thinking he/she was an eagle and try to mingle with other eagles (hawks are usually seen as prey to eagles). This hawk seems to be doing just fine as is evident by the below video that was made the past couple of days...there is a whole army of people who photo/video and watch this nest and if you are interested in more info just GOOGLE "Redtail hawk raised by eagles at Robert's Bay Sidney BC" and you will find tons and tons of info. The Young Hawk stayed with the stranded eaglet for two days and showed her how to flap her wings in the wind! It sometimes was right beside her and showed her how to climb up the ladder of branches. I could say it comforted her and showed her how to get back more than the word saved! But I like it and that is how it is.

Hero of the Day... LittleEagle!

What happened this afternoon, you might ask... I missed the action, but 2 local residents hear a blood curdling Eagle scream just after Noon today and rushed outside to see what had happened.

It seems a pair of interloping Eagles had dropped down from the skies with intention to fly into our Sidney Eagle family's air space but was met promptly by the parent pair of Eagles. I am told that 3 separate attacks were made and during this time the young Eaglets came into the nest and surrounding trees absolutely terrified and stayed down shrieking.

Meanwhile as Mom and Dad were defending the nest against this attack, LittleEagle came flying out of one of his usual haunts and prepared to help in the defence. He flew fast and furious with talons extended in full attack mode.

Fortunately the parent Eagles were able to repel the intruders with no casualties and littleEagle did not have to test his weaponry.

This little (Big) Eagle will go down in history as having one of the greatest Eagle Spirits ...

Despite this extreme bravery, just after I shot this photo of him circling overhead in a victory lap, 2 crows appeared out of nowhere and forced him into the thicker trees... sigh.. Dang Crows!

Baby elephant playing and chasing after feathered friends, falls down then goes running to mom for comfort...note that mom was coming to check on it after it fell...moms and kids, doesn’t matter if it is the two-legged or the four-legged kind. This made me smile from the inside out!

Willow kinda reminds me of my cats at home. Majority of them tried to get some cat treats out of the automatic feeders. Funny how they didn't care even if I am staring at them.
