Thread: Cuisinart Recall

    Default Cuisinart Recall

Usually I ignore these recalls. But on GMA they were talking about the blade coming apart. So knowing that it spins real quick I figured I'd take a look.

The blade is held to the hub with 4 rivets. Our blade was cracked about all the way through and across at two of the rivets. A total break and pieces would be flying around.

So take a look at yours, if you have one. They are recalling all the way back to the 90's.

What is this blade a part of? What kind of appliance? Blender? Food processor?

Guess it's a sorta blender and processor. You push vegies and stuff down into it and the blade rotates and chops them up.

Okay, sounds like a food processor. I don't have one, but do have a small electric chopper that I got my mother years ago and took back after she died. It is small and I haven't used it in over 20 years...could use to chop a half an onion once you cut it up into about 6 pieces or something else really small like a hard-boiled egg. Only holds about a cup. I found it to be more trouble to clean than it is worth to use.

Thanx for the info though. I GOOGLED and found this:

    Then
you best get it replaced, pronto!

    From the above link:

Cuisinart has issued a voluntary recall for about 8 million food processors because of a risk of the blade cracking and breaking off into food, according to a release from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued Tuesday. Conair, the company that owns Cuisinart, has received 69 reports of people who found pieces of a blade in their food, and 30 reports of injury, the recall said. About 300,000 food processors in Canada are also affected.

The recall involves food processors with model numbers that begin with the following (the model number's on the bottom of the food processor):

    • CFP-9
    • CFP-11
    • DFP-7
    • DFP-11
    • DFP-14
    • DLC-5
    • DLC-7
    • DLC-8
    • DLC-10
    • DLC-XP
    • DLC-2007
    • DLC-2009
    • DLC-2011
    • DLC-2014
    • DLC-3011
    • DLC-3014
    • EV-7
    • EV-10
    • EV-11
    • EV-14
    • KFP-7
    • MP-14

The blades on the affected units have four rivets, are silver-colored stainless steel and have a beige plastic center. If you have one of the recalled food processors, you should stop using it and contact Cuisinart for a replacement blade by calling 877-339-2534 or going to the company's website, according to the recall.

This recall came out the first of the week. It took until yesterday at 0500 to get into their site and file for a replacement. Prior to yesterday the site was not responsive. Forget the phone busy around the clock.

There must be millions of those food processors "out there." Good luck, and hopefully you guys will be food processing again soon.

Maybe, in order to keep a happy household it is time to spring for a whole new food processor, especially if yours is an older one; or, temporarily replace with a cheaper one, that can be donated later on, to be used whilst waiting for the replacement part. You know...happy wife, happy life or you may be designated to the chopping block so to speak.

Two weeks ago purchased a Kitchenaid processor. She can play with that and I'll do the chopping.
