Default Muslim special needs student's father says teacher called police on boy

PEARLAND, Texas (FOX 26) - “Mohammad was born with Down Syndrome chromosome 21,” said his father Maher Suleiman.
The 6-year-old boy also has intellectual difficulties and doesn’t speak.
“He needs care all the time,” said Maher.
Mohammad attends C. J. Harris Elementary School in Pearland.
Maher said his son’s regular teacher left and a substitute teacher called Pearland police about his son. He also said the school told the officer that Mohammad could talk.
“It’s not true, he doesn’t speak at all,” said Maher. He also said the substitute teacher told police the boy would reportedly say "Allah" and "boom."
“She claimed he was a terrorist,” said Maher. “This is so stupid, it’s discrimination. Actually, it’s not implied discrimination, it’s actual discrimination.”
The teacher’s reported accusation against the special needs child prompted a police investigation and one by Child Protective Services as well.
“The last three to four weeks have been the hardest of my life,” said Maher. “My wife and kids were crying a few days ago and I told them everything is fine.”
“In my opinion, based on everything I heard from the police department and speaking with the administration from the school, that this was a story piece milled together by a substitute teacher alleging this child was sexually harassing her, the teacher, and possibly being a terrorist,” said community activist Quanell X. “A 6-year-old kid.”
The Pearland Police Department told FOX 26 News that they did conduct an investigation but found no need for police involvement.
CPS says its investigation remains open.
A spokesperson for the Pearland Independent School District said the district cannot release any student or personnel information due to privacy laws.
A petition now has thousands of signatures asking a Pearland school to ban the substitute teacher.

You think??? I find myself having to fight prejudice feelings towards Muslims. Intellectually, I know that there are good and bad just like with everyone regardless of their ethnicity, religion, race, sex, sex orientation, so on and so forth...but, the human nature in me sometimes slips and I find that, maybe because of my life experiences, sometimes that prejudice bone that we all have gets rattled and I have to think about what I am feeling and get it in check. But a 6-year-old boy with Downs Syndrome? How awful this must be for him, if he can understand what happened and for his family.

I know this will seem harsh but if the child needs constant care why is he in a classroom? A elementary school is for learning not constant care.

This will help explain the law as it pertains to the education of handicapped children. It was/is commonly referred to as, “ mainstreaming.” I have seen cases where if necessary, caretakers are assigned to attend school with the student.

While Hector was acting up and being otherwise disruptive in class the children suffered. The teacher, could at various times during the day lose the class's attention due to his behavior. I'm not of the belief that for a PC term, a classroom of kids should be deprived of the best education they can get for some social "feel good" program.

I have thought that for a long time. It seems so unfair on the handicapped child anyway....like it's rubbing it in to them that they can never be the same as other - luckier - children.

It's not about the child, it is about the parents. I remember when kids with learning problems had a classroom where they were attended to and taught in line with their ability. There were aids to assist with their care. Now to have a cause, parents of these kids raised hell that their kids were being treated differently and were not having a "classroom experience". So, mainstreaming became the new buzzword. Well, their kids were treated differently because they were different, different in behavior, different in ability both mental and physical. So there are now kids in class that are in diapers, that act up are disruptive and are ill behaved.
Public schools have become state subsidized day care imo. If these kids who have special needs were not in public schools the parents would have to pay for some sort of day care. Instead the taxpayer pays for it. And the rest of the kids receive a lessened education.

I apologize if I offended but it is what it is.

I agree entirely! It's a ridiculous situation. The parents cannot love their children at all.

When I was working at the school, there was on girl who was always being removed from the class and they would park her outside the nurses office in the hallway. I went over one day and brought her in my office and gave her some stuff to color. Felt sorry for her sitting there all day. She behaved for me. I created a monster. She liked being with me, so she would act out to get sent to the hallway and she could come and hang with me. She should have been in a designated special ed class and not mainstreamed.
